The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women who unite each year to observe a common day of prayer. This year it is on 3 March and the theme will be "signs of the times".
The World Day of Prayer started in 1926, although its origins date back to the 19th century when Christian women of the United States and Canada initiated a variety of activities in support of women's involvement in mission. The day is an opportunity for women of all races, cultures and traditions to affirm their faith in Jesus Christ and to share their experiences, their hopes and their fears. Women are encouraged to become aware of the whole world and no longer live in isolation, to pray with and for others, and be enriched by the faith experience of Christians of other countries and cultures.
